Iran Parliament Backs Accession to Makkah Anti-Corruption Treaty

The Iranian Parliament has approved the government’s accession to the “Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation.”

The treaty, designed to strengthen collaboration among law enforcement agencies in combating corruption, was approved with 162 votes in favor, 9 against, and 4 abstentions, out of 198 representatives present at the parliamentary session, The Caspian Post reports, citing Iranian media.

During Wednesday’s session, the parliament authorized the Iranian government to join the Makkah Treaty, which comprises a preamble and 23 articles, as detailed in the annex.

Under Note 2 of the appendix, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are required to submit an annual report on the law’s implementation to the Parliament’s Legal and Judicial Committee.
