Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in the Omani capital, Muscat, on Saturday for talks expected to focus on bilateral relations and regional developments, The Caspian Post reports, citing Anadolu Agency.
Araghchi was welcomed by Omani officials upon his arrival. The agency did not provide further details about the visit.
On Friday, IRNA reported that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz would be among the key issues to be discussed during the talks.
The visit comes amid heightened regional tensions. In mid-June, Iran and the United States reached a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding aimed at ending their military confrontation and paving the way for a lasting peace agreement.
Despite the agreement, the two sides have exchanged attacks over the past two days following an escalation linked to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Thursday, Tehran launched a series of strikes targeting U.S. military infrastructure in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan, describing the attacks as retaliation for a second consecutive night of U.S. strikes on Iran.
