Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said on Tuesday that last week's nuclear talks with the United States were mainly intended to assess Washington's "seriousness," noting that the short meeting demonstrated enough mutual understanding to continue discussions despite existing distrust.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and US Central Command Chief Adm. Brad Cooper met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other Iranian senior officials in Oman on Friday, The Caspian Post reports, citing foreign media.

US President Donald Trump described the talks in Oman as "very good" and announced that another meeting will take place "early next week."
