Iran has declared that it reserves the right to take countermeasures following the Australian government’s decision to downgrade diplomatic relations and expel the Iranian ambassador along with several diplomats.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned Canberra’s move as unjustified and in contradiction to the traditions of diplomatic relations between the two countries, The Caspian Post informs via Iranian media.

The ministry also rejected Australia’s accusations of promoting antisemitism, stressing that the phenomenon “historically originated in Western Europe.”

Tehran further described the expulsion of Iranian diplomats as a reflection of the policies of the Israeli regime.

According to the statement, Iran reserves the right to respond and holds the Australian government fully responsible for any consequences, including difficulties this decision may create for the Iranian community in Australia.
