Visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev has handed over to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin’s invitation to pay an official visit to Russia "in the first days of 2025," the press service of the Iranian president said.
According to the press service, the visiting Russian deputy prime minister said that the Russian government is ready "to hold talks and organize" Pezeshkian’s visit to Russia, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.
Apart from that, Savekyev conveyed "warm greetings" from the Russian president and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The Russian delegation also included Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, Minister of Sport Roman Starovoit, and RZD CEO Oleg Belozerov.
The Iranian foreign ministry said on December 23 that Pezeshkian’s visit may be held before January 19, 2025. The visit is expected to yield a treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Tehran.
According to the two countries’ officials, the treaty covers all spheres of bilateral cooperation and will give an impetus to Russian-Iranian cooperation in various areas, including defense, energy, transport, industry, agriculture, culture, science and technology. Relations between the two countries are currently regulated by the Treaty on the Basic Principles of Relations and Principles of Cooperation between Russia and Iran of 2001.
