On Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned the US and Israel that any renewed attacks could escalate the conflict “beyond the region,” as a fragile ceasefire persists and Washington considers possible new strikes.
“If aggression against Iran is repeated, the promised regional war will this time extend beyond the region, and our crushing blows in places you do not expect will bring you to utter ruin,” the IRGC said in a statement carried by affiliated media, The Caspian Post reports, citing The New Region.
“We are men of war, and you will see our power on the battlefield, not in empty statements and social media pages,” it added.
American and Israeli leaders have been mulling restarting the war with Iran, according to reports from Western and Israeli outlets, as a two-week ceasefire that was initially announced by Trump on April 8 has been extended for several weeks beyond its deadline.
The IRGC threat comes two days after US President Donald Trump on Monday announced that he was postponing a planned attack on Iran scheduled for the next day at the request of Gulf leaders, and added that ongoing negotiations could lead to a deal that involves “NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!”
On Sunday, Trump told Iran to “get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them,” warning that “the Clock is Ticking.”
The ceasefire was meant to halt hostilities while the two warring sides attempted to reach an agreement. The prospect of a permanent end to the conflict has been rocky, however.
On Tuesday, the Iranian army warned that it will “open new fronts” against the US should the American army resume the offensive against the Islamic republic.
Hours later, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi described Trump's recent remarks of calling off attacks on Iran as calling a "threat" an "opportunity for peace"
"Iran is united and resolutely ready to confront any military aggression. For us, surrender means nothing; we either win or become a martyr," Gharibabadi said on X.
US officials told Axios on Monday that Iran’s Sunday proposal for a peace deal, sent through Pakistani mediators, is “insufficient” for an agreement, with a senior official noting that if Tehran does not engage in “real” dialogue about its nuclear program with the US, “we will have a conversation through bombs, which will be a shame.”
