Israel does not currently see signs of an imminent Iranian missile attack but believes the conflict could escalate quickly in the coming days.

The Israeli military remains on a high state of alert, though it has not yet reached its maximum level of readiness. Israeli officials reportedly expect tensions to rise sharply after the conclusion of the FIFA Club World Cup, with a possible escalation as early as next week, The Caspian Post reports via Ynet.

A missile strike toward Aqaba, Jordan, on July 19 may indicate what Israel views as an Iranian effort to expand the geographical scope of the conflict. The report suggested Tehran could soon abandon its previous reluctance to directly involve Israel in the growing regional confrontation.

On July 19, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said the military was closely monitoring developments involving Iran and was prepared to immediately resume military operations against anyone who threatened Israel.

Zamir also said the IDF had tracked a missile launch toward Aqaba earlier that day. Later, the Israeli military said it had launched several interceptor missiles targeting debris from missiles fired from Iran toward Jordan. According to the IDF, fragments of the interceptor missiles were later found in an unpopulated area near the southern Israeli city of Eilat.
