Just two tankers managed to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz on March 2, a sharp drop in traffic following escalating threats from Iran.

The figure marks a significant decline compared to the previous day, March 1, when five vessels carrying oil and chemicals successfully transited the critical maritime corridor - one of the world’s most vital chokepoints for global energy supplies, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.

Tensions spiked after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned on March 2 that any tanker attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz would be “set on fire.” The threat has rattled energy markets and shipping companies, raising fears of potential disruptions to global oil flows.

The Strait of Hormuz handles roughly a fifth of the world’s oil shipments, making any instability in the area a major concern for international trade and energy security.
