Poland has launched an investigation into a cyberattack targeting a national nuclear research center, with early indicators suggesting a possible connection to Iran.

Polish authorities managed to stop the attack before hackers could breach the facility’s security systems, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.

Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski said that the attempted intrusion occurred in recent days but was quickly contained by cybersecurity teams.

“An attempt was made to break through the security system, but it was prevented. The relevant services are already working on the case,” Gawkowski said, adding that the research center remains secure.

Preliminary analysis of the attack’s entry vectors indicates links to Iran, though officials caution the evidence could also be a deliberate attempt to mislead investigators about the hackers’ true location.

The targeted center conducts research in nuclear energy, subatomic physics, and related fields. Poland does not possess nuclear weapons but is currently building its first nuclear power plant as part of its long-term energy strategy.
