Tajik President Emomali Rahmon departed for Iran's capital Tehran on July 3 for a working visit, leading a high-level delegation that includes senior government officials.

The delegation includes the foreign minister, the presidential aide for foreign policy, the minister of energy and water resources, the chairman of the Committee for Religious Affairs, Regulation of Traditions, Celebrations and Ceremonies, and other officials, The Caspian Post reports via Asia Plus.

While the Tajik government did not specify the purpose of the visit, Iran's embassy in Dushanbe announced earlier this week that Rahmon would attend the official farewell ceremony for Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. The Tajik delegation would include representatives of the country's intellectual, religious, and civil society communities.

The farewell ceremonies for Khamenei began in Tehran on July 3 and are scheduled to continue over several days. Official events involving foreign delegations are expected on July 4 and 5, followed by a public mourning procession through Tehran on July 6.

The ceremonies will then move to the city of Qom on July 7 before Khamenei's body is taken to Iraq on July 8 for additional commemorations. The mourning period is set to conclude on July 9 in Mashhad, where he is expected to be laid to rest.
