US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he canceled forthcoming strikes and bombings against Iran, citing progress in discussions with Tehran’s leadership.
“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, The Caspian Post reports.
“Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Türkiye, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others,” he added.
However, Trump said that the US naval blockade, which has been in place since April, will remain in effect “until this Transaction is finalized,” adding that the time and place of the signing will be announced “shortly.”
Earlier on Thursday morning, Trump had threatened that the US could carry out a third round of strikes against Iran, following attacks resumed on Tuesday and Wednesday, actions that had pushed the countries toward a potential return to full-scale war.
