U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States would accept no agreement with Iran short of “unconditional surrender,” a day after Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is not seeking a ceasefire and sees no reason to negotiate with Washington.

“There will be no deal with Iran except unconditional surrender,” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, The Caspian Post reports.

Trump added that after such a surrender and the selection of what he described as a “great and acceptable leader,” the US and its allies would assist in rebuilding Iran’s economy.

On Thursday, Araghchi told NBC News that Iran was not seeking a ceasefire and rejected the idea of negotiations with Washington.

“We are not asking for a ceasefire, and we don't see any reason why we should negotiate with the United States,” Araghchi said. “When we negotiated with them twice, every time they attacked us in the middle of the negotiations.”
