A new round of talks between the United States and Iran could take place in Islamabad as early as next week, according to sources familiar with the matter, The Caspian Post reports, citing The Wall Street Journal.
The report said the United States and Iran are working with mediators to draft a memorandum of understanding that would set out the framework for month-long negotiations aimed at ending the war. If confirmed, the talks could resume in Islamabad next week, with the initial negotiation period potentially extended if both sides agree and make progress.
According to the WSJ, the proposed memorandum would outline conditions for the discussions, including steps toward de-escalation and a structured negotiation process between the two sides.
Separately, Saudi Arabia’s Al Arabiya television channel reported, citing a diplomatic source, that consultations mediated by Pakistan are focusing on a draft agreement intended to end the conflict, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and ease what it described as a blockade on Iran by the United States.
However, the source cited by Al Arabiya also stressed that the negotiation process remains difficult, with significant obstacles still unresolved.
