Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan Expand Maritime Cooperation with Shipbuilding Deal

A new phase of maritime cooperation is underway as Azerbaijan's Baku Shipyard and Kazakhstan's KTZ Express Shipping signed an agreement to construct two modern dry cargo vessels.

The deal, concluded with participation from Samruk-Kazyna, marks a significant step in strengthening transport and logistics capabilities across the Caspian region, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

Under the agreement, the two dry cargo ships will be built to meet the latest international maritime standards, aiming to improve efficiency and expand freight capacity along key trade routes.

Executives highlighted the strategic importance of the project. AZCON Holding representatives said the partnership demonstrates Azerbaijan’s growing technological capabilities in shipbuilding and opens the door for future international projects.

Kazakh officials emphasized that the development of maritime infrastructure is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country’s transit potential. Building a national fleet for Kazakhstan’s rail-linked shipping operations is expected to enhance the stability of the Trans-Caspian transport route and support rising cargo flows along the Middle Corridor.

The collaboration is also seen as timely amid growing global demand for alternative trade routes, with both countries seeking to expand their role in regional logistics networks.

With this new agreement, the number of vessels under international orders at the shipyard has risen to four, reinforcing its position as a competitive player in the global shipbuilding industry.
