From September 15 to 19, drone operators from the emergency ministries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan took part in an international master training program in Almaty and the surrounding region.
The exercise focused on leveraging unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for disaster prevention and emergency response, The Caspian Post reports via the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Organized by the Kazakh Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction, with support from the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) and Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, the five-day event combined classroom theory with hands-on drills and competitions.
Participants were tested in five key disciplines:
Locating victims in both natural and man-made disaster environments
UAV performance testing
Drone assembly and deployment
Water-based search and rescue operations
Aerial surveillance and reconnaissance
Officials said the training provided an important platform for sharing best practices, strengthening coordination among agencies, and advancing international collaboration. A major focus was placed on applying drone technology in real-world emergencies, such as landslide, mudflow, avalanche, and flood monitoring, as well as locating people in distress.
