Baku Shipyard to Build Two Container Ships for Kazakhstan

A major shipbuilding deal is set to strengthen regional logistics as Azerbaijan's Baku Shipyard will construct two modern container vessels for Kazakhstan's KTZ Express Shipping, part of Samruk-Kazyna.

The announcement was made by the shipyard’s chairman, Ruslan Talibov, who confirmed that technical specifications for the vessels have already been finalized. The project is expected to be completed within 28 months from the date of contract signing, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

According to the agreement, the vessels will be dry cargo container ships designed to meet international standards. Each ship will measure approximately 140.97 meters in length, 16.9 meters in width, and 6.8 meters in height.

The ships are engineered for both sea and river operations, with a draft of 5.56 meters at sea and 3.60 meters in river conditions. Their carrying capacity is estimated at around 9,900 tons at sea and 5,057 tons in river mode, with container capacity reaching up to 537 TEU at sea and 433 TEU on inland waterways.

Equipped with two main engines of 1,600 kW each, the vessels are expected to reach speeds of about 11 knots.

Talibov emphasized that this order is the shipyard’s second international project, highlighting the company’s growing reputation as a reliable partner in the global shipbuilding market.

The project is also seen as a boost for regional transport routes, particularly along the Trans-Caspian corridor, where demand for cargo shipping continues to grow.
