Branch of Italy’s Marche Polytechnic Opens to Boost Agricultural Innovation in Kazakhstan

The Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education has announced that in a significant step toward enhancing international academic cooperation, a branch of Italy’s Marche Polytechnic University was opened at Zhetisu University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov.

The new branch will offer joint double-degree programs in agronomy and agricultural science and technology, tailored to meet the growing demand for skilled specialists in the agricultural sector, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

Reflecting the region’s strong agricultural profile, the curriculum will also include programs in food engineering, tourism, economics, and digital technologies.

To support the launch, the Zhetisu regional administration has allocated 14 government-funded educational grants for students enrolling in the initial stage.

Italian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Antonello De Riu emphasized the strategic significance of the initiative:

“Italy views cooperation with Zhetisu University as a key component of its international education strategy. Through joint projects in education and research, academic exchange, and shared expertise, we aim to build the capacity of both institutions. This partnership is not only a new academic opportunity but also a meaningful step in strengthening bilateral ties between Italy and Kazakhstan.”

With a rising demand for agronomists and digital technology experts, the opening of the branch is expected to help bridge critical skills gaps in Kazakhstan’s workforce.

As part of the academic mobility program, faculty from Marche Polytechnic University will conduct lectures and workshops at the branch. Students will also have access to joint research projects and international internship opportunities. Graduates will receive diplomas recognized by both institutions.
