Chinese Firm to Build 15-Million-Ton Port Hub in Kazakhstan

A Chinese company is set to develop a multimodal port hub in western Kazakhstan as the country accelerates its ambitions to become a key Eurasian transport and logistics gateway.

The project was discussed during a meeting in Shanghai between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Yu Boyang, Chairman of the Board of Guoyou Materials Industry Group Co., Ltd., The Caspian Post reports via Akorda.

The two sides reviewed plans to build a multifunctional port complex at the Port of Kuryk in Kazakhstan's Mangystau Region.

President Tokayev welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that Kazakhstan is committed to strengthening its position as one of Eurasia's leading transport and logistics hubs.

During the first phase, Guoyou Materials Industry Group plans to develop the port with an annual handling capacity of 15 million tons.

The new logistics hub is expected to enhance maritime and rail connectivity, increase the capacity of the region's transport infrastructure, and expand Kazakhstan's export and transit potential along key international trade corridors.

The project forms part of Kazakhstan's broader strategy to modernize its logistics network and capitalize on growing cargo flows between China, Central Asia, the Caspian region, and Europe.
