Kazakhstan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have agreed to develop a joint “roadmap” for cooperation, which will outline coordinated interaction between relevant departments, as well as missions and events scheduled for 2025-2027.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and Almasadam Satkaliyev, head of Kazakhstan’s Nuclear Energy Agency, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Grossi highlighted that the IAEA is prepared to provide comprehensive support to Kazakhstan at all stages of nuclear power plant development, from site selection and construction preparation to facility commissioning.
“The discussions also addressed key aspects of Kazakhstan’s national nuclear energy development program, infrastructure expansion, and the application of nuclear technologies in industry, agriculture, and healthcare,” the statement said.
The meeting further focused on the responsible management of uranium resources, ensuring stable global supply, and balancing Kazakhstan’s national interests with international obligations. Kazakhstan announced the creation of an international consortium to construct a nuclear power plant, advance research projects, and launch a facility for the safe storage of highly enriched fuel.
Grossi was also invited to visit Kazakhstan to continue the dialogue and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.
