Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has officially opened the eighth Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana and warned that the nature of modern wars is becoming increasingly severe, emphasizing the urgent need for constructive dialogue and international cooperation to prevent further escalation of global conflicts.
The event is being held under the theme “Dialogue of Religions: Synergy for the Future”, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
“Today in Astana, the most authoritative spiritual leaders of the world have gathered. This is a great honor and a source of pride for us. Across the globe, tensions are rising, leading to an increase in conflicts. Unstable periods are never easy, and the nature of wars is becoming increasingly severe. Yet the lessons of history should guide us toward constructive and open dialogue. In this regard, the significance of today’s congress is truly unique,” President Tokayev said.
The president extended special gratitude to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ for attending. “In Kazakhstan, you are sincerely respected for your invaluable contribution to strengthening interfaith harmony and religious tolerance, not only within our society but also on a broader international scale. Your presence will undoubtedly enrich the forthcoming dialogue among leaders of traditional religions and serve as a key factor in the success of the forum,” President Tokayev noted.
Among the distinguished participants, the president also highlighted Deputy Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Muhammad Al-Daini and Secretary General of the Muslim World League Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.
The congress program brings together global spiritual leaders to discuss the role of religions in promoting peace, tolerance, and cooperation in the modern world.
