Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has taken part via teleconference in the official ceremony marking the launch of natural gas supply to the town of Kosshy.
The commissioning of the first stage of the gasification project includes a new gas regulation facility and 409 kilometers of trunk pipelines capable of delivering up to 32,800 cubic meters of natural gas per hour, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The total investment in the project is estimated at 11.4 billion tenge ($21.172 million). Kosshy, which was granted the status of a city of regional significance in July 2021, is expected to see major infrastructure benefits from the project.
As part of his working trip to the Akmola region, President Tokayev also met with local farmers. He announced that the second AgriForum will be held in Astana and highlighted that the region’s sown area has expanded to 5.5 million hectares, including 495,000 hectares of oilseed crops. The president stressed the need for crop diversification and the adoption of digital technologies in agriculture.
Additionally, the president was presented with the new general plan for the city of Kokshetau and briefed on the launch of a five-year housing renovation program in the regional administrative center.
