A team of Kazakh medical professionals has returned to Astana after completing a humanitarian mission in Afghanistan.
They were warmly welcomed at Astana International Airport by colleagues, Foreign Ministry staff, and journalists, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
Kazakhstan dispatched 15 doctors and essential medical supplies following the magnitude 6.3 earthquake on November 3, which caused heavy casualties and a critical shortage of medical personnel and medicines. The team included traumatologists, surgeons, neurosurgeons, and other specialists from three national centers.
During their mission, Kazakh doctors performed 44 surgeries, including trauma care from the earthquake, road accidents, and gunshot injuries, while neurosurgeons carried out more than 10 complex procedures. They also consulted with Afghan doctors, organized patient care, planned surgeries, and conducted joint case reviews, sharing expertise to strengthen local healthcare response.
“This was the first experience of this kind for our doctors. We provided hands-on support, trained local teams, and helped optimize patient care during a critical period,” said Olzhas Bekarissov, Director of the National Scientific Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics.
The mission, launched under the directive of the Kazakh President, reflects Kazakhstan’s ongoing commitment to international humanitarian assistance in emergency situations.
