President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has praised the recent progress toward the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, calling it a testament to the power of diplomacy in resolving long-standing conflicts.
Speaking during the General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Tokayev commended the diplomatic efforts that led to the historic agreement signed in Washington, D.C. earlier this year, The Caspian Post reports via the official website of the Kazakh president.
"We also welcome the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia under the mediation of the United States’ President. It shows that even entrenched conflicts can be settled through diplomacy and common sense. Guided by this principle, Kazakhstan consistently favors diplomacy over escalation and dialogue over force," President Tokayev said during his address at the UN headquarters.
President Tokayev welcomed the US-facilitated negotiations as a constructive example for global conflict resolution. The agreement, signed on August 8, includes a joint declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia outlining seven key points aimed at fostering peace and cooperation.
One of the most significant provisions of the declaration is the launch of the Zangezur Corridor, also referred to informally as the “Trump Route.” The corridor is expected to unblock critical regional transport and communication lines, offering a major boost to connectivity across the South Caucasus.
