Speaking at the CIS Heads of State Council summit in Dushanbe, President of Kazakhstan Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev has underscored the strategic value of the “North-South” transport corridor as a direct channel for CIS nations to access markets in the Persian Gulf and South Asia.
He further observed that the “East-West” and Trans‑Caspian routes-when linked with China’s Belt and Road Initiative-are transforming the CIS into a critical overland bridge spanning Eurasia, The Caspian Post informs via Turkish media.
To support this vision, Tokayev pointed to the newly commissioned Dostyk-Moyynty railway line, which lays groundwork for the Trans‑Kazakhstan railway corridor and strengthens the region’s transit infrastructure.
Toward a Unified Logistics Framework
President Tokayev proposed creating a Unified Digital Transport and Logistics Map for CIS states. The initiative aims to harmonize infrastructure plans across member countries, foster a coherent transportation network, and enhance investment appeal.
He also announced that a Concept for Coordinating Key Transport Arteries is nearing completion. To boost efficiency and reduce costs, he advocated integrating artificial intelligence into logistical management and planning frameworks.
Trade Gains Signal Untapped Potential
Highlighting recent economic momentum, Tokayev shared that intra‑CIS trade rose 8 per cent in 2023, reaching $110 billion, while Kazakhstan’s trade with CIS partners has grown 50 per cent over five years, now totaling $38 billion.
“These numbers show that while our trade potential is significant, it remains far from fully realized,” Tokayev concluded, calling on member states to accelerate cooperation and infrastructure integration.
