Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has met with Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike during his official visit to Japan, discussing cooperation in digitalization, Smart City technologies, artificial intelligence, and sustainable urban development.
The talks focused on introducing innovative solutions in city management and creating more comfortable, eco-friendly, safe, and inclusive urban environments for residents and visitors of major metropolitan areas, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
President Tokayev highlighted the strong potential for cooperation between Astana and Tokyo, particularly in integrating artificial intelligence into urban governance.
During the meeting, the Kazakh leader was introduced to Tokyo’s Smart City concept, which relies on advanced technologies to improve quality of life, boost management efficiency, and ensure sustainable development.
President Tokayev arrived in Japan on December 17 for an official visit. Earlier, he held talks with Emperor Naruhito, noting that Japan has long inspired the people of Kazakhstan with its discipline and resilience. Emperor Naruhito also hosted an official reception in honor of the Kazakh President.
As part of the visit, Tokayev visited the Meiji Jingu Shrine in Tokyo, met Kazakh citizens studying and working in Japan, and held discussions with members of the Japanese Parliamentary League of Friendship with Kazakhstan led by Toshiaki Endo.
A ceremonial welcoming event was also held at the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan, where President Tokayev held talks with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. During the meeting, the Japanese Prime Minister подчеркнула, что Japan views Kazakhstan as a strategic partner in supporting a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
The visit concluded with the adoption of a joint declaration and the signing of 14 bilateral documents, underscoring the deepening partnership between Kazakhstan and Japan.
