Kazakh PM Calls for Global Green Unity at Altai Environmental Forum

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has taken part in the 1st International Environmental Conference in Manzherok, where he called for stronger regional and global cooperation on environmental protection.

In his address at the plenary session, Bektenov emphasized that environmental security is not just part of the global green agenda, but a vital foundation for any country’s sustainable development, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

He presented Kazakhstan’s national environmental agenda, highlighting the Taza Qazaqstan (Clean Kazakhstan) campaign as a flagship program aimed at fostering public responsibility for environmental care. The campaign, which involves regular nationwide clean-ups and tree-planting efforts, has already mobilized nearly nine million people.

Kazakhstan is also focused on structural reforms, including updating environmental legislation, deploying green technologies, and expanding the digital monitoring of ecological systems.

Bektenov announced that Kazakhstan is preparing to launch a Biodiversity Conservation Fund, and is actively working to expand its network of protected areas. Ongoing initiatives include restoring populations of endangered species such as the Bactrian deer, Onager, Argali, Goitered gazelle, and Snow leopard, along with ambitious plans to reintroduce the extinct-in-the-wild Turan tiger and Przewalski’s horse.

Describing the conference venue as symbolically important, Bektenov noted that the Altai region is historically considered a cradle of Turkic civilization, serving as a bridge for cultural and humanitarian dialogue across Eurasia.

The high-level session also brought together prominent regional leaders, including Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Belarusian Deputy PM Alexander Turchin, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev, Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, and Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Nokerguly Atagulyev.
