Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has congratulated the country’s Union of Cynologists on the historic first official international presentation of the Kazakh Tazy breed at the 2025 World Dog Show in Helsinki, Finland.
The Kazakh national team showcased eight Tazy dogs and won seven major awards, garnering widespread acclaim, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
President Tokayev underscored the importance of preserving and promoting the Tazy and Tobet breeds as vital parts of Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage. He urged continued systematic efforts in breed development, scientific research, and active participation in international dog shows, according to Ruslan Zheldibay, the president’s advisor and press secretary.
The Kazakh team’s presence at the World Dog Show attracted significant attention from international experts, judges, and breeders. The Kazakh stand, designed in the style of a traditional yurt, served as a cultural showcase and drew strong interest from visitors worldwide.
In efforts to elevate the breed’s profile, President Tokayev has previously gifted Kazakh Tazy dogs to French President Emmanuel Macron and renowned Kazakh artist Dimash Qudaibergen.
The Tazy breed holds a special place in Kazakh culture as part of the Zheti Kazyna - a revered symbol of traditional nomadic values such as intelligence, mobility, hunting, protection, family, and culture. The number seven (Zheti) in Turkic tradition symbolizes harmony and sacredness.
Marking a significant milestone, Kazakhstan will celebrate the Day of Kazakh Dog Breeds, honoring the Tazy and Tobet, for the first time on September 3. This date commemorates the 2024 recognition by the International Canine Federation (FCI) of the Kazakh Tazy as an official breed, confirming Kazakhstan’s role as the breed standard authority.
