Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has held a narrow-format meeting with President of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Félix Tshisekedi, highlighting that the talks would strengthen Central Asia-Africa ties and reaffirming Kazakhstan’s commitment to deepening engagement with African states.
President Tokayev expressed his gratitude to Félix Tshisekedi for accepting his invitation to visit Astana, emphasizing that the Congolese President’s first state visit to Kazakhstan would provide a new impetus for bilateral relations, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
“Kazakhstan regards the DRC as a key partner in Africa and is committed to the comprehensive development of our cooperation,” President Tokayev said. “Your country, with a population exceeding 110 million and rich in human and natural resources, commands respect both regionally and internationally.”
In response, President Tshisekedi expressed confidence that the discussions would deepen the ties between the two nations. He thanked President Tokayev and the people of Kazakhstan for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation.
Arriving in Astana to foster both bilateral cooperation and broader Central Asia-Africa relations, Tshisekedi said, “Such visits allow our countries to grow closer and gain a better understanding of one another. We have collaborated with Kazakhstan through ERG, active in the mining sector, and we see many other areas where experience can be exchanged and cooperation strengthened.”
The leaders also discussed key international and regional issues, further underscoring their mutual interest in expanding strategic collaboration.
President Félix Tshisekedi’s state visit to Astana, following an official invitation from President Tokayev, marks a milestone in Kazakhstan-DRC relations.
