Kazakh Security Committee to Gain New Powers in 2027

Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee (NSC) will receive expanded powers starting January 1, 2027, under a new decree signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

According to the document, the National Security Committee will take on responsibilities related to the state material reserve, gaining the authority to propose which items should be stored, in what quantities, and when they should be released, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The Committee will also be able to share its data with other government bodies to speed up the detection of money laundering, terrorism financing, and the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

Additionally, the National Security Committee will determine when state reserves should be used, calculate the necessary funding, and submit those estimates to the government.
