Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Join Forces to Boost the Middle Corridor Connecting Asia and Europe

Kazakh and Azerbaijani specialists have been making steady, coordinated efforts to develop the Middle Corridor, a vital transport and logistics route linking China and Central Asia with Europe.

Advisor to the President of Kazakhstan, Assel Zhanassova, outlined the development plan for this key corridor during a briefing to Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ilham Aliyev, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

They were informed that the main growth driver for the Middle Corridor is the rising volume of shipments from China to Azerbaijan. Currently, transit times from the Chinese border to Georgian ports range between 15 to 18 days. Forecasts predict that cargo flow along this route could triple by 2030.

The presentation also highlighted specific initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of the Middle Corridor, further strengthening its role as a crucial transit artery within the Eurasian region.

The briefing took place during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Kazakhstan, which began on October 20. Upon arrival, Aliyev was warmly welcomed by President Tokayev at the Akorda Residence, where they held focused talks exploring opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, transport, and transit sectors.
