Construction of a large solar power plant officially started in Orungay, Sauran district, Kazakhstan's Turkistan region.
The project is part of Kazakhstan’s efforts to expand renewable energy, increase green energy share, and create jobs, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Governor Nuralkhan Kusherov attended the capsule laying ceremony, highlighting the strategic significance of the project for economic diversification, investment growth, and clean energy generation. The 300 MW plant will see 160 billion tenge invested and is expected to create around 500 local jobs.
Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund Chairman Nurlan Zhakupov noted the project will strengthen Kazakhstan’s energy security. China’s Ambassador Han Chunlin praised it as a symbol of Kazakhstan-China strategic partnership, while Ni Zhen, President of China Energy Group, and Lin Xiaodan, Chairman of China Energy Engineering Overseas Investment Company, emphasized its technical, environmental, and investment significance.
Once completed, the plant will boost renewable energy in Turkistan, support industrial growth, and promote sustainable, eco-friendly regional development. The region is also expanding water-saving technologies to 400,000 hectares.
