Kazakhstan Boosts Cattle Breeding to Strengthen Food Security and Exports

Kazakhstan is implementing new mechanisms to develop its cattle breeding sector in line with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s Address, “Fair Kazakhstan: Law and Order, Economic Growth, Public Optimism”, and other directives from the president.

Livestock breeding remains a cornerstone of Kazakhstan’s food security, contributing around 40 per cent of the country’s gross agricultural output, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

From January to July 2025, the sector grew by 3.4 per cent, reaching nearly 2 trillion tenge ($3.703 billion). Meat production rose 2 per cent to 608,800 tons, while milk production increased 6.5 per cent to 2.25 million tons.

Animal and poultry stocks are steadily rising nationwide: cattle reached 8.7 million heads (+0.3 per cent), horses 4.6 million (+6.7 per cent), camels 300,000 (+3.9 per cent), and poultry 48 million (+6.6 per cent).

Kazakhstan’s livestock exports also strengthened, with beef shipments rising 2.5 times to 12,300 tons and lamb meat exports increasing 2.6 times to 9,200 tons, reflecting growing international demand and competitiveness.

Experts note that the sector’s steady development, along with the establishment of world-class clusters and new support mechanisms, positions cattle breeding as a key driver of growth in Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial complex.
