Kazakhstan Citizens Get Free 30-Day Travel to India

India has announced the introduction of free visas for citizens of Kazakhstan for stays of up to 30 days, a move aimed at boosting tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The decision was unveiled by Y. K. Sailas Thangal, Ambassador of India to Kazakhstan, during a reception in Astana marking the 77th Republic Day of India, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

“The Government of India has decided to grant gratis visas up to 30 days to Kazakh nationals travelling for tourism, medical treatment, and accompanying persons,” the ambassador said. The new visa facility will be available both through online applications and in-person submissions at the Embassy of India.

Thangal said that tourism exchanges between the two countries continue to expand. In 2025 alone, an estimated 250,000 Indian citizens visited Kazakhstan, reflecting growing interest in travel, business, and cultural ties.

In his remarks, the ambassador also highlighted India’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, pointing to rapid development in information technology, artificial intelligence, fintech, pharmaceuticals, and digital infrastructure.

He underscored the importance of the strategic partnership between India and Kazakhstan, noting cooperation within multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, BRICS, Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, the United Nations, and the India-Central Asia Dialogue.

Kazakhstan remains India’s largest trading partner in Central Asia, with bilateral trade estimated at around $1 billion. Both sides see significant potential for further growth, particularly in energy, logistics, healthcare, and technology.

The ambassador also pointed to ongoing cooperation in defence and education, including joint training programs and scholarship initiatives designed to deepen long-term ties. The event concluded with congratulations on India’s Republic Day and expressions of mutual commitment to expanding bilateral relations.
