Kazakhstan Emerges as Second-Largest Investor in Eurasian Region

Kazakhstan has become the second-largest investor in the Eurasian region, according to a new analytical report presented by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

The findings were shared by Alexander Zaboev, Head of the Centre for Integration Studies at the bank, during an online presentation of the report “Investment Dynamics in the Eurasian Region - Results and Trends”, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Zaboev noted that Kazakhstan remains one of the region’s key investment drivers, even though Uzbekistan has recently slightly overtaken it in attracting foreign investments thanks to rapid economic growth over the past two years.

“Despite this shift, Kazakhstan continues to be the largest investor across the Eurasian region and one of the most important destinations for regional capital,” Zaboev said.

A large portion of investments by Kazakh companies is focused on construction projects across Central Asia, while another major share goes into transport and logistics infrastructure. Analysts say this reflects Kazakhstan’s strategy to expand its role as a regional transit and logistics hub.

To strengthen these routes to global markets, Kazakhstan has also been acquiring infrastructure assets abroad, including stakes in port facilities in Georgia, which help improve access to international shipping corridors.

At the same time, the resource sector remains a traditional magnet for investment, particularly large oil and gas projects on the Caspian Sea shelf, which continue to attract significant capital into the country.

Experts say Kazakhstan’s dual role - both as a major investor and a key investment destination - highlights its growing influence in the economic landscape of the Eurasian region.
