Kazakhstan has established a national Cybersecurity Technology Consortium dedicated to protecting the country’s fuel and energy complex (FEC) in response to a dramatic rise in cyber threats.
The initiative is part of a wider national strategy focused on digital transformation and securing critical infrastructure, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The Ministry of Energy led the creation of the non-profit consortium, which will function under the oversight of the Situational and Analytical Center of the Fuel and Energy Complex. The platform unites the country’s top cybersecurity operations centers, all of which have committed to coordinating efforts and sharing resources to reinforce the security of Kazakhstan’s vital energy systems.
“The Consortium’s immediate priorities include conducting a comprehensive cybersecurity audit of all critical energy facilities and establishing unified regulatory and protection standards,” the ministry said in an official statement. “This foundation will help build a resilient, adaptive defense system to effectively counter modern cyber threats and ensure robust digital security readiness.”
Officials noted that all consortium activities will be conducted in full compliance with Kazakhstan’s legislation and guided by transparency, collaboration, and collective decision-making.
The launch comes amid a staggering number of attempted cyber intrusions. In just the first half of 2025, more than 965 million cyberattacks targeting Kazakhstan’s critical infrastructure were intercepted and neutralized - a number that underscores the urgency of building institutional cyber resilience.
