Kazakhstan Launches Modern Bolektau Eco-Trail for Tourists

A new eco-trail, Bolektau, has been inaugurated in Burabay National Park in Kazakhstan, offering a modern, safe, and interactive route designed to attract tourists.

The trail features digital innovations, allowing visitors to explore it as an interactive quest with QR codes, an audio guide, and a Telegram bot, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

Winding through picturesque landscapes, the Bolektau trail begins at the entrance arch and ends at a rest area with a gazebo. Previously considered one of the steepest and most challenging sections for hikers, it is now accessible to everyone, from adventurous travelers to families with children.

“Developing eco and educational tourism is a key priority for us. Active participation by the private sector is crucial. The Bolektau eco-trail demonstrates how businesses can invest in long-term, socially important projects that enhance tourism infrastructure and promote responsible attitudes toward nature. Public-private partnerships like this help ensure sustainability, accessibility, and quality,” said Daniel Serzhanuly, Acting Chairman of the Board of Kazakh Tourism.

Along the route, visitors can find informational stands about the local flora, fauna, and legends, complemented by QR codes linking to an audio guide available in Kazakh, Russian, and English. Eco-friendly materials were prioritized in the trail’s construction; the central stand, for example, is coated with an innovative photocatalytic material that purifies the air under sunlight.

The launch of the Bolektau trail comes as Kazakhstan continues to strengthen its tourism sector, having recently improved its ranking in the Henley & Partners Passport Index, which measures global travel freedom for citizens.
