Kazakhstan Launches New Silk Road Tourist Train Linking Historic Cities

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway company of Kazakhstan, has announced the launch of a new tourist train route that begins and ends in Almaty, traveling through key historical and cultural centers including Turkistan, Otyrar, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Tashkent.

The six-day journey is designed to immerse travelers in the rich legacy of the Great Silk Road, connecting major landmarks across Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

Tourists will have the opportunity to visit renowned sites such as the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum and the ancient Otyrar settlement in Turkistan; the Ark Fortress and Lyabi-Khauz Complex in Bukhara; the Amir Timur Mausoleum (Gur-e-Amir) and Registan Square in Samarkand; and the Tole-bi Mausoleum and Hazrati Imam Memorial Complex in Tashkent.

The Jibek Joly tourist train features modern, domestically produced carriages that combine comfort with cultural authenticity. The interior design incorporates traditional national motifs and ornaments, creating an atmosphere that reflects the region’s heritage. The train consists of five carriages, including four private compartments and a dining car.

Since its launch in November last year, the Silk Road tour has attracted over 1,000 travelers, offering a unique blend of luxury travel and cultural discovery across two of Central Asia’s most historically significant countries.
