Kazakhstan, Mongolia Eye Deeper Trade and Transport Links at Business Forum

Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin has participated in the opening of the 2nd Kazakh-Mongolian Business Council, which convened in Astana with the aim of deepening economic and strategic ties between the two nations.

In his remarks, Zhumangarin highlighted the importance of the Mongolian parliamentary delegation’s visit, led by Chairman of the State Great Khural Dashzegve Amarbayasgalan, describing it as a testament to the mutual trust and shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

Kazakhstan and Mongolia are united not only by geography and the shared heritage of the Great Steppe, but also by deep spiritual and cultural ties,” Zhumangarin said. “For centuries, our peoples have upheld traditions of friendship, mutual respect, and good neighborliness. Today, we have a real opportunity to infuse that legacy with new meaning and elevate our cooperation to a new level.”

The forum brought together senior government officials, members of parliament, representatives of Kazakhstan’s Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, the Foreign Trade Chamber, quasi-state entities, and over 100 business leaders from both countries.

During the meeting, both sides expressed intent to:

Resume direct flights between Astana and Ulaanbaatar, and potentially expand air connectivity.

Construct a highway linking Central and East Asia, unlocking new regional trade potential.

Develop joint production of environmentally friendly agricultural goods.

Enhance cooperation in science, education, energy, and the mining sector.

Kazakhstan also announced its readiness to offer educational scholarships to Mongolian students and to train specialists in high-demand fields such as engineering and information technology.

Zhumangarin encouraged the business communities of both nations to proactively explore new formats of cooperation, identify high-potential projects, and focus on moving from dialogue to implementation.

Trade between the two countries continues growing. From January to July 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached $74 million, a 3.6 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024. Kazakhstan’s exports to Mongolia amounted to $71.5 million, driven primarily by processed goods and agricultural products.
