A state-of-the-art rowing canal has officially opened in Turkestan, Kazakhstan, marking a milestone for sports infrastructure in Central Asia.
The new complex is the first facility of its kind in the region. Spanning 100 hectares and stretching about 2.5 kilometers in length, the canal is designed to accommodate both elite competitions and daily training sessions, The Caspian Post reports via the Kazakh media.
The facility will host international rowing, kayaking, and canoeing events, including World Cup and Asian Cup tournaments, while also serving as a regular training ground for athletes.
Beyond its sporting functions, the canal contributes to the city’s irrigation system and helps maintain the surrounding green belt. The complex also features a one-kilometer city beach, a hotel, and spectator stands, providing a versatile space for sports, recreation, and tourism.
