President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law on Saturday introducing amendments and additions to several legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The law focuses on enforcing rulings of the Constitutional Court and ensuring the return of illegally acquired assets to the state. The full text of the law is scheduled to be published in the press, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
According to the Senate Committee, the amendments aim to increase transparency and improve the efficiency of recovering illegally acquired assets. They also implement directives from the President’s address to the people of Kazakhstan, which include:
Requiring the publication of information on measures taken to return illegally acquired assets to the state, reporting on their results, detailing how recovered assets are used for citizens and state interests, and outlining systemic measures to prevent future illegal acquisition and withdrawal of assets.
Regulating the content of agreements that involve investing recovered funds in the national economy, constructing social and cultural facilities, or otherwise contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
Establishing procedures for concluding other agreements and stipulating that assets voluntarily returned to the state will not be considered illegal.
