Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev officially welcomed Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides at the Palace of Independence in Astana, marking the start of the Cypriot leader’s first official visit to Kazakhstan.
The ceremonial reception featured an honor guard and the performance of the national anthems of both countries by the Presidential Orchestra. Following the official welcome, the two leaders walked along the red carpet to Kazakhstan’s State Flag before beginning closed-door talks, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.
The visit is expected to strengthen relations between Kazakhstan and Cyprus, with discussions focused on expanding trade and economic cooperation, attracting investment, and boosting cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
In addition to one-on-one talks, the presidents will participate in an expanded meeting with official delegations from both countries. Several agreements and memorandums are expected to be signed, paving the way for closer collaboration across a range of sectors.
Christodoulides’ visit comes at a time of growing ties between the two nations. Recent direct Air Astana flights linking Kazakhstan with Larnaca have improved connectivity and opened new opportunities for tourism, business and investment.
