Kazakhstan’s Industrial Output Climbs 6.9% on Manufacturing Boom

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has announced that Kazakhstan’s industrial output index increased by 6.9 per cent in 2024, driven largely by gains in the manufacturing sector.

Bektenov made these remarks at an extended meeting of the AMANAT Party faction, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

According to government data, the strongest growth was recorded in machine building, food production, petrochemicals, and chemicals. Over the first seven months of the year, Kazakhstan’s manufacturing output reached 16.2 trillion tenge ($29.995 billion), making up 47 per cent of total industrial production and surpassing the extractive sector’s share by 1.4 per cent.

Bektenov noted that 190 new manufacturing projects worth 1.5 trillion tenge ($2.777 billion) will be launched this year. The projects are expected to create more than 20,000 jobs and generate up to 2.2 trillion tenge ($4.073 billion) in additional output.

He also highlighted Kazakhstan’s recent advances in industrial diversification, including the production of polypropylene, ferrosilicon, special coke, household appliances, car tires, and truck components over the past three years. Meanwhile, in 2024, metal ore mining increased by 7.8 per cent and metal fabrication by 6.9 per cent.

The meeting came ahead of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s upcoming state-of-the-nation address. In parallel, the sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna is presenting more than 130 infrastructure projects at the Astana Finance Days forum.
