Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has approved the country’s Nuclear Industry Development Strategy through 2050.
The announcement was made by the Republic’s Atomic Energy Agency, The Caspian Post reports.
The strategy outlines the goals, approaches, and priority areas of state policy in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
“It was developed taking into account global trends and domestic challenges, and is aimed at ensuring national energy security and sustainable economic growth, developing high-tech industries, and fulfilling international climate commitments,” the statement reads.
It is noted that the strategy is intended to create a modern and sustainable nuclear cluster in Kazakhstan, integrated into the global nuclear ecosystem. It is expected to help ensure the country’s energy and technological independence.
The plan also considers the creation of nuclear clusters involving the development of nuclear energy and industry, nuclear science and applied nuclear technologies, waste management systems and safety, as well as the comprehensive training of highly qualified domestic personnel and the creation of new jobs.
