Kazakhstan has taken a major leap toward becoming a global artificial intelligence powerhouse, signing a $10 billion package of agreements with U.S.-based Firebird and AI giant NVIDIA to build one of the world's most ambitious digital infrastructure projects.
The agreements were finalized during a high-level meeting led by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and attended by NVIDIA Vice President Rev Lebaredian, Firebird CEO Razmig Hovaghimian, senior Kazakh officials, and U.S. representatives, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.
At the center of the initiative is the massive Data Center Valley project in Ekibastuz, which aims to create a next-generation AI and cloud computing hub capable of hosting global digital infrastructure. The project is expected to scale from an initial 300 MW of power capacity to as much as 1 GW, positioning Kazakhstan as a strategic destination for AI development.
The investment will support the deployment of a computing cluster powered by 100,000 advanced NVIDIA GPU chips, including the latest GB300 and Vera Rubin platforms. The project is projected to generate at least $3 billion in annual export revenue, create thousands of highly skilled jobs, and attract leading international technology companies.
Firebird CEO Razmig Hovaghimian said the planned 2027 launch could place Kazakhstan among the world's top 10 countries for AI infrastructure, praising the country's ambition, talent, and commitment to innovation.
NVIDIA Vice President Rev Lebaredian highlighted Kazakhstan's energy resources as a key competitive advantage, describing them as the foundation for building a complete AI ecosystem. He noted that the country has the potential to participate across every layer of the global AI value chain.
The agreements include a strategic partnership between Kazakhstan's Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development and Firebird, as well as a binding cooperation framework between Kazakhtelecom and Firebird for the implementation of the Data Center Valley initiative.
The announcement comes shortly after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev approved the nationwide Digital Qazaqstan Strategy, which aims to accelerate large-scale digitalization and the integration of artificial intelligence technologies through 2029.
