Kazakhstan Starts Phased Output Recovery at Tengiz Field

The Chevron-led venture Tengizchevroil has begun restoring production at the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan, the country's Energy Ministry announced.

According to the ministry, production operations at Tengiz have resumed, with the first well, GZU-52, successfully opened at 3:35 a.m. local time, The Caspian Post reports.

Process units at the PBF facility have been launched and are operating normally.

A total of five wells have already been commissioned. Tengizchevroil’s technical teams are now preparing to bring the next group metering unit, GZU-53, online. Production volumes will be increased gradually as system parameters stabilize and process safety is ensured.

Earlier, on January 26, the Second Generation Plant (SGP) was successfully launched using feedstock from the already operating Korolevskoye field.

The Energy Ministry and KazMunayGas said they are providing comprehensive support to the project operator to shorten the time needed to reach planned capacity. Vice Minister of Energy Kaiyrkhan Tutkyshbayev is currently at the production site coordinating restoration work.

Officials said the situation remains under constant monitoring, with strict compliance with industrial safety standards a continuing priority.
