Kazakhstan is set to launch a new innovative university in Ulytau region as the Science and Higher Education Ministry and Kazakhmys Corporation LLP have signed a key memorandum to establish Ulytau University.
The agreement, signed by Minister Sayasat Nurbek and Kazakhmys Board Chairman Nurakhmet Nuriev, marks a major step in strengthening the region’s scientific and educational potential, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
The project focuses on training highly skilled specialists for the mining and metallurgical sector while creating a modern educational ecosystem that unites education, science, and industry.
Ulytau University is expected to collaborate with the Colorado School of Mines (US) - one of the world’s top mining universities - and Kazakhstan’s Satbayev University. The partnership will bring international-level programs, advanced technologies, and joint research opportunities to the region. Academic programs are planned to launch next academic year.
The university’s infrastructure will include a new academic building, a dormitory for up to 150 students, a sports complex, and a cutting-edge R&D center focused on innovative technologies and improving mineral extraction efficiency.
Attracting the Colorado School of Mines is seen as a breakthrough that will help Kazakhstan adopt global best practices and prepare competitive specialists for international markets. The project is expected to boost job creation, attract youth to Ulytau, and accelerate the country’s shift from a raw-material model to a knowledge- and technology-driven economy.
Notably, Astana IT University recently became the first Kazakhstani university to join the global MIT network, highlighting the nation’s growing presence in the international higher-education landscape.
