A landmark environmental agreement is set to be adopted in Astana, Kazakhstan, as regional leaders gather for the RES 2026 Summit.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that participants will approve the Astana Declaration on Ecological Solidarity in Central Asia, alongside several key agreements aimed at strengthening regional cooperation on environmental challenges, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Speaking at the summit, Tokayev emphasized that environmental protection is not only a global task, but also a shared responsibility to future generations. “This is about the future of all people, especially the younger generation,” he said.
The Kazakh leader stressed that environmental protection goes beyond policy - it is a moral duty, an economic necessity, and a strategic priority for long-term peace and stability.
President Tokayev said that building a sustainable and resilient future requires a commitment to core principles: responsibility to citizens, cross-border cooperation, fair access to resources and technologies, and practical actions that deliver real results.
