Kazakhstan is moving closer to launching a major new production facility, as Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov met with Bilal Alkoç, Chairman of the Board of Türkiye’s Iskefe Holding, to discuss plans for an edible gelatin plant.
The high-tech enterprise, valued at 22.5 billion tenge, is set to begin construction in 2026 with an annual capacity of 7,000 tons, the Ministry of Agriculture reports, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Saparov stressed that the project is strategically important for expanding Kazakhstan’s processing industry, especially given the country’s large but underutilized supply of leather raw materials. Although 11 enterprises currently operate in this sector, only 5.9 per cent of hides were processed in 2024, while most remained unused.
“The new plant will allow us to process significant volumes of raw materials, increase industry efficiency, and boost export potential. We are ready to provide full support for the project,” Saparov stated.
Kazakhstan has already introduced extensive incentives for leather and wool processing - from investment subsidies to tax benefits. Under the 2024-2028 Comprehensive Plan, the ministry aims to establish more than 70 wool collection points and around 200 mobile shearing complexes to raise the share of processed raw materials and strengthen the country’s global competitiveness.
Iskefe Holding representatives expressed confidence that the project will create new jobs, stimulate the processing sector, and increase exports of high-value goods.
Kazakhstan’s cooperation with Turkish businesses continues to grow, with 14 joint projects worth $1.1 billion currently underway, seven of which have already been completed.
