Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are stepping up cooperation in the high-stakes rare earth sector, aiming to strengthen their global position in critical minerals.

In Astana, the two countries held the first meeting of a joint working group focused on geology and the extraction of rare and rare earth metals, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The outcome: a landmark agreement to establish a permanent cooperation mechanism covering joint projects, technology exchange, and investment attraction.

The talks brought together senior officials, including Iran Sharkhan, Vice Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, and Rustam Yusupov, Deputy Minister of Mining Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan, alongside representatives of relevant ministries from both nations.

Discussions centered on expanding collaboration across the full value chain-from geological exploration and mining to processing and advanced refining of rare earth resources.
