Kazakhstan plans to boost its coal production to 128.9 million tons in 2026, Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov said on Tuesday.
According to the minister, coal output reached 115.9 million tons in 2025, marking a 7% increase compared to the previous year, The Caspian Post reports, citing Xinhua.
Of this amount, around 85.9 million tons were consumed domestically, primarily for power generation and industrial use, while 30 million tons were exported to countries such as Russia, Poland, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, India and Malaysia.
Akkenzhenov also noted that Kazakhstan ranks 10th globally in coal reserves, with an estimated 33.6 billion tons-enough to sustain production for up to 300 years.
